Tick! Now for the next month..

My interwebs was well buggered when I met my goal, so didn't get the chance to celebrate!*

We've now set a new heap of goals bigger than the first because...

CANBERRA ROLLER DERBY LEAGUE HAS ANNOUNCED IT'S HAVING TRY OUTS.

Auditions for the tiny few spots they have in the league. A chance to be skating three times a week, every week and to eventually bout.

You have to be able to do all sorts of crazy things: 50 sit ups, 20 push ups, 2 X 30 sec planks and a whole heap of derby-specific skills.

I'm really starting to dig derby now my skills are getting better. Today at training we did some relays where we had to skate backwards and forwards, do push ups and sit ups in between and adrenaline was at a fever pitch. It really is the most fun sport I've ever played.

With running, I love it when I finish and have achieved what I set out to do. With derby, I enjoy the actual doing.

Now my Shano-set goals are tailored to do the absolute best I can in the try-outs, on July 2. To know, Rocky-style, there's nothing else I could have done.

So for the next months it's 2 pump classes, 1 big bike ride, commuting to work, 2 gym sessions and skating practice. Sorry boys, don't think I'll have time for amour this month.

ps. Check out those crazy retro derby women. They don't have any padding. Crikey!

*That's not entirely true. My coach-buddies Shane and Jo and I all had some delicious Japanese food to mark the end of the first month.

  1. I love roller derby (I'm a big fan of the Minnesota Rollergirls here in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area) and I can't wait to read more about your adventures!
