I've lost a schmidt load of fitness!

Wow. It's so true what the peeps say: it takes six months to get into shape and three weeks to get right back out of it.

Yesterday I decided to go back a few weeks into my beloved Guardian running plan and went to the gym today for 36 mins of 5 mins run 1 min walk.

My lungs were burning, I felt sooooo heavy (haven't been near the scales in 6 weeks so I've no idea what's happening there) and I felt tired tired tired. And worst of all! I quit half way through! Technically, not even half way through!

So, it's back to baby steps. On Monday I'm going to go back a week to 32 minutes of 3 mins run 1 min walk.  To think before my injury I was running 6kms.

I'm absolutely not going to be getting depressed about it. I just have to go back to the near beginning and that's that. You see, I've spent my entire life trying to get fit, starting from being crazily unfit. Those months running were different for me and now I just need to start from the beginning. Again.

Note to anyone injured: pump out those swimming laps EVERY DAY!

Will take no time at all Miss Mel. If my misspent childhood watching Donoghue (anyone remember him??) taught me anything it's that "muscles remember". He had some ab-tastic aerobics lady on and that's what she said. Back to 6km within a couple of weeks I reckon.

Good luck!!

Mel,
Somehow I had lost you in blogland! So now I'm catching up by reading your past posts! Sorry to see you've been hurt. I had one of those painful cortisone injections in the side of my heel about 6 months ago. It worked, but the doctor restricted my running for a while. So be careful how quickly you get back to running...and run SLOWLY. "Baby steps" as Alison said. Missed reading your blog, woman. I will not "lose" you again. Hugs to you.

It's true, so unfair how quickly our fitness seems to disappear after a hiatus.

You'll get it back and be stronger than ever, so hang in there!

The good news is that it won't take that much time to feel like you are getting back in the groove. I promise!! Yay for running! So glad to hear you are back on the road.

Keep it up Mel - you're doing the hardest part I'm getting started again. Now that you know you can do it, getting back to where you were will be easier than from nothing - you know you can do it, and just keep thinking how good it'll feel to hit all of those milestones again. :)

you had the fitness levels up before, you will get them back in no time (i notice the difference too btw). You have the right attitude though about not being discouraged... stay positive. Can't find an email address for you, so in response to your comment on my post... yep, Melbun. :) I haven't actually tried Vegemite yet, because it's not something easy to find, I'm sure there'd be some somewhere... but he said he'd send me a care package once he returns home, with some Cherry Ripe too. lol

Don't fret, Mel! I know it's frustrating to have to go back, but I'm betting this time around the fitness will come much easier and quicker, and you'll be back to where you left off in no time ;) Just keep at it!

Stay with it. Your fitness will come back pretty quickly (as long as you continue excerising). Take it easy too. It took weeks to get to where you were. It won't be overnight to get back.

Also, don't fret about the scale. You've changed your lifestyle. The scale is no longer your enemy.

it'll come back easier than it did the first time, you're not having to start completely from 0! take it slow and listen to the aches/creaks. you'll be back soon enough!
